Learn About Us

What We Do

Our mission is to inspire and empower individuals to grow their own food, while also building stronger community connections through the shared experience of gardening. We believe that access to fresh, healthy food is a basic human right and that by cultivating this food ourselves, we can take control of our own health and well-being. Through our programs, we hope to create a culture of sustainability, centered around organic gardening practices that support the local ecosystem. We work to educate individuals on the importance of sustainable agriculture and the environmental impact of industrial farming. In addition to promoting sustainable food practices, we also prioritize social equity and inclusivity in our programming. We recognize the injustices present in our food system and aim to create a space where everyone can participate and learn from one another. We believe that by cultivating our own food and fostering a sense of community, we can create a more resilient and sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. Join us in cultivating culture, one garden at a time.

The History of Our Community Garden

How We Started Out

Cultivating Culture was founded by Tyeena Carter (Ty) and her love of giving and growth. She began by planting a small garden in her backyard, and soon her friends and neighbors started asking for a share of her bounty. As demand grew, she decided to start a community garden, where anyone could come and learn how to grow their own food. Over time, the community garden grew into a cultural hub, where people of all ages and backgrounds could come together to share their knowledge and love of gardening. The garden became a place for people to connect, to learn from each other, and to nourish their bodies and souls with fresh, healthy food. Today, Cultivating Culture is a thriving nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits. We continue to operate our community garden, and we also offer a variety of educational programs, including workshops on composting, cooking, and sustainable farming practices. Our mission is to foster a love of gardening and healthy eating, and to build strong, resilient communities that are connected to the land and to each other.

Our Philosophy

&What Inspires Us!

Our philosophy at Cultivating Culture Community Garden is centered around the belief that everyone has the right to fresh, healthy food and the opportunity to connect with the natural world. We believe that building a strong and supportive community is essential to achieving this goal. To put this philosophy into action, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where people from all walks of life can come together to grow their own food, learn about sustainable gardening practices, and share their knowledge and resources with others. We emphasize the importance of building relationships and fostering a sense of unity among our members in order to create a vibrant and thriving garden community. In addition to promoting sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits, we also believe in the power of nature to promote mental health and well-being. We encourage our members to take time to connect with the natural world and to appreciate the beauty and abundance of the earth. Ultimately, our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive community where individuals can come together to learn, grow, and cultivate a deeper connection to the land and each other. We believe that by doing so, we can create a healthier, more sustainable, and more just world for all.
